Laptops as gaming machines? Not too long ago, the idea was unthinkable. The best gaming platforms were highly customized towers that were a pain in the butt to carry around. Today, however the gaming laptop has finally arrived. Boasting fat hard drives, speeds unheard of on tower systems just a few years ago and massive screens, gaming laptops aim to fill the gap between portable gaming devices and full-scale platforms – and they aim to do it by running games better than either of them.

Top gaming laptops are not cheap. The best from established brands like Alienware, Rock Xtreme, and Sager can run $4,000-5,000. In addition to their high-end models, Alienware has a line of affordable gaming laptops that start at under $1500. Old school brands like Dell and Toshiba also have some great affordable models for gamers on the go. Cheap gaming Notebooks are out there, and through special financing you may be able to get a lot more laptop than you think you can.

OK, so they’re still not as cheap as that cute little netbook your sister cruises Facebook with, but you need this power; so what are you going to do? I have three magic words for you. “Low monthly payments” That’s right, just like a car, a new guitar, or any other major purchase, you can finance your new gaming laptop. With financing options running the gamut from manufacture direct financing to small third party lenders, there is a good chance you can get affordable monthly payments on gaming laptops no matter what machine you choose or how much trouble you have had with credit in the past.

When searching for financing, look first for special manufacture deals, and specials offered by the store or site selling the laptop since they stand to gain the most from you buying the computer, they will often have the best deals. Also, be sure to check out third party lenders. Many third party companies specialize in loans for electronics and may be able to get you financed when a manufacture or store financing company cannot.

If you’ve got good credit you may be able to finance your new laptop with no money down, but even if you’ve got a couple of dings on your record you can usually put a little money down and get set up with affordable monthly payments on many gaming laptops. The key is to plan to invest as much time into securing financing as you do looking for your new gaming rig itself.

Terms generally run from 12-36 months – about as long as you will want to keep your computer before upgrading – with lower monthly payments when stretched over the longer term. Find out what you can afford to spend each month – payments can be as low as the equivalent of just one new game each month – then find the cheap gaming notebook that will fit your budget. Game on!
